Gas and Electrical Safety Checks

  • If you have a gas fire or boiler within your property, the Association is required by law to service it every year, within 12 months of the previous service.
  • The contractor allocated to your property will contact you two months before the anniversary of the previous year’s service to arrange access with you.
  • If you have a credit meter, please ensure you have sufficient credit to allow the service to take place.
  • You must provide access for this work and if you fail to do so, the Association will take steps to force access to your property. You will be charged for the cost of doing this.
  • If you have your own gas appliances eg a cooker, fire you must ensure that any repairs are carried out by a GASSAFE engineer.  It could be dangerous, and illegal, to allow a non qualified person tamper with gas appliances – you could be putting your family and neighbours at risk by so doing.

  • The Association carries out a full electrical safety check every 5 years and every time a property becomes void.
  • This covers the electrical wiring, sockets, circuit breakers and Distribution board.
  • It does not cover your electrical appliances – it is your responsibility to ensure that these are safe and in good condition.
  • If you would like to know when your property is due its next safety check, please check the distribution board (where you will see a sticker with the date of the last check) or contact the Association’s Maintenance Department.
  • If you have a credit meter, please ensure you have sufficient credit to allow the service to take place.
